Roof Repair - Metal Roof Repair and Maintenance

Liquid rubber is proving to be an effective solution for roof repair. The photo's below show a metal roof on an industrial facility near Edmonton, Alberta (Nisku, AB) that we recently repaired with liquid rubber roof coating.

The roof coating process is;

- Pressure wash and clean the roof
- Tape off areas that liquid rubber should not be applied to
- Replace all loose fasteners and do any sheet metal repairs required
- Use a trowel grade liquid rubber (400% elasticity) to the fasteners, openings, penetrations, curbs, etc (in this instance the roof to wall area was coated as snow and ice build up gets in the roof to wall connection)
- Apply first coat of liquid rubber with sprayer (900% elasticity)
- Apply second coat of liquid rubber opposite direction to be sure all seams and fasteners, roof units, curbs, wall to roof area, etc. are one monolithic seamless roof system

Some of the advantages the liquid rubber system has is;

- Seamless roof system, no seams = no leaks
- Ten year manufacturer warranty
- Extended service packages available for extended maintenance plans
- VOC environmentally friendly green roofing product
- Maintenance and not a replacement so the tax benefits are considerable
- Rust, corrosion to metal is solved
- UV resistant unlike other roof caulking and coatings used in past (the acrylics, asphalt, and reflective elastomeric roofing used in past would crack within a year or two)
- Liquid rubber can be used to coat tar and gravel and torch on flat roofing also.

"An accident in which a roofer was killed when he fell through the skylight of former premier Gordon Campbell's vacation home is highlighting a little-known piece of contract law that can have huge implications for homeowners.


In a report released publicly Monday, WorkSafeBC said Campbell, as the homeowner, became the "prime contractor" because he failed to assign that written role to the general contractor whose company was doing some renovations on his Sunshine Coast home last July. As a result, the former premier had the legal responsibility for coordinating and establishing compliance with health and safety requirements."
